Indifferent
Little ones, cherished,
Close to the heart,
Tiny hands held
Taught to walk,
For you emotions flood
And break the dam of reason:
To water your seed,
To watch you flower.
Is it time now to applaud -
Now that you're potty-trained and able
To recite the alphabet backwards?
Hands clasped, we rise -
Your dawn is upon us.
Approving grins widen twitching smiles,
Twinkles stud our eyes;
But have you seen our ears?
Plugged!
... and the mice
trampled under our feet
still squeak, "MURDER!"
Close to the heart,
Tiny hands held
Taught to walk,
For you emotions flood
And break the dam of reason:
To water your seed,
To watch you flower.
Is it time now to applaud -
Now that you're potty-trained and able
To recite the alphabet backwards?
Hands clasped, we rise -
Your dawn is upon us.
Approving grins widen twitching smiles,
Twinkles stud our eyes;
But have you seen our ears?
Plugged!
... and the mice
trampled under our feet
still squeak, "MURDER!"
